Ingredient Glossary: Astaxanthin, The Holy Grail

Nicknamed the KING of Carotenoids: Astaxanthin, the world’s most powerful antioxidant, is extracted from a "freshwater microalgae Haematococcus pluvialis," a niche species found in shallow waters and commonly referred to as Green Algae or Microalgae. Freshwater Algae are special (just like you) because they thrive in harsh environments thanks to a red antioxidant called Astaxanthin, whereas other types of Algae don't do as well.

Here’s how the magic happens…

When Green Algae becomes exposed to UV rays and other environmental stressors, it starts to hyperaccumulate Astaxanthin in order to survive in its new conditions. When the natural production of Astaxanthin starts to take place in the Green Algae, it will slowly turn a vibrant red color. Astaxanthin is what protects the microalgae in their new intolerant environment and is what can protect us too — by establishing cellular antioxidant balance and reducing further oxidative stress in our bodies.

A unique and amazing antioxidant, Astaxanthin is fat soluble. It has a unique structure that allows it to reach across and span cell membranes for better coverage and more complete protection from free radicals. In other words, unlike other antioxidants, it is able to protect the entire cell from damage, inside and out.

Benefits and How It Works

Antioxidants play a key role in our skin and overall health. Through our natural aging process and uncontrollable environmental stressors (pollution, UVA/UVB rays, blue light from technology, low humidity), our bodies go through oxidative stress caused by free radicals — considered one of the primary causes of human aging. There are many whole foods that are antioxidant rich. In your daily life, you will consume (happily) at least one antioxidant-rich food item, such as dark chocolate, pecans, blueberries, tomatoes, and even wine (resveratrol)!

But here’s how the KING of Carotenoids gets its name. Research shows that…

astaxanthin is 110 times stronger than vitamin e, 500 times stronger than green tea catachins, 800 times stronger than CoQ10, 3000 times stronger than resveratol, 6000 times stronger than vitamin C

Skin Health / Perfect Aging

The Skin is the biggest organ on our body and is constantly in direct contact with the environment. It not only protects us but represents who we are as individuals. When our skin goes through oxidative stress — a completely natural phenomenon with natural aging only to be uncontrollably sped up due to the daily environmental stressors — our skin will lose collagen, be dull, and dehydrated. With as little as 2mg of daily consumption of Astaxanthin, it can support skin hydration, boost elasticity, promote smooth skin, and balance out the free radical damage.

Luckily, all our Beauty Tōnics have 4mg of Astaxanthin in each bottle/serving which is double the amount needed to see skin benefiting results. According to health specialists, 12mg per day is the maximum dosage one should take. If you would like to see faster health (eye, brain, muscle) and beauty results than the estimated 6-8 weeks, we suggest you enjoy up to 3 bottles of Rōzes’ Beauty Tōnics each day!

Speaking of losing Collagen, there is hope! When Astaxanthin and Collagen are taken together, they form a dynamic duo for healthy and glowing skin from the inside out. To learn more as to why Collagen and Astaxanthin are the 1-2 punch for reducing signs of aging, click here! As the most powerful antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties, it will combat free radicals that lead to collagen degradation and formation of wrinkles.
